Insurance jobs can be great for the right type of person. If you are that type of person, though, you need to make sure you can get in the door in the first place.
That’s where a stellar resume comes into the picture. Unfortunately, many people don’t know how to attract the right kind of attention with their resume. These tips can help you put together a resume that could land you an all-important interview as you search for the right insurance jobs.
Be clear about objectives
If your goal is to be the greatest insurance sales person on the face of the earth, say so. If it’s something else, you should spell that out as well.
Don’t worry too much about lack of experience
Insurance industry experience isn’t always necessary to get into an insurance industry career. Integrity and ability as a salesperson are more important.
“Attitude and enthusiasm are key,” says Rickey Broussard of State Farm. “We would rather hire someone with the right competencies and attitude versus someone with industry experience but who shows signs of burnout.”
Insurance agents run their own small businesses. So you need to be up to that task.
You also want to be sure to market yourself well on your resume. “If you can’t sell yourself on paper, how can you sell the State Farm product?” Broussard asks. “Take a page or two, tell me who you are, where you’ve been, how you got to where you are now and where you’re going.”
You won’t do yourself any favors if you make errors on your resume. So be sure to scan for misspelled words and typos.
